From Jaclyn Smith to Katie Holmes, many actresses have portrayed Jackie Kennedy, and with the new official trailer for Jackie, we get a glimpse of Natalie Portman’s take on the First Lady.
The clip follows Kennedy from the moment she puts on her now-iconic pink pillbox hat, through her husbands assassination, his funeral, and the psychological struggle that ensued.
A shorter, teaser was released earlier last month.
Set to the tune of “Camelot,” the clip first highlights happy moments in the White House like JFK Jr.’s birthday and a musical performance. It then quickly pivots to the focus of the film: President Kennedy’s assassination, and the days following, ending with a shot of Jackie’s vacant stare, as she sits in her blood-stained pink suit next to her husband’s casket.
“[We see] the toughness of who she was, dealing with what she had to go through while keeping herself together for the sake of the country and her family, and also the vulnerability and the intelligence of how she really crafted [JFK’s] legacy,” Portman told Entertainment Weekly.
It these trailers are any indication, Portman will be an Oscar contender, yet again.
Jackie premieres in select theaters on December 2016.
