Aerin Lauder x William Sonoma Do Elegant Breakfast In NYC

“My first response was, ‘Do you really think she would?’” exclaimed Janet Hayes, president of Williams-Sonoma, at the brand’s Time Warner Center location yesterday for the launch event of the company’s collaboration with Aerin Lauder. “I learned a lot from my family [and] learned the importance of amazing, like-minded partners,” said Lauder, whose collection includes everything from chandeliers to frames. “I learned that from Estée. She used to always say, ‘Everything can be beautiful if you take the time.’”

And at yesterday’s breakfast, featuring yummy bites from Nick Anderer of Maialino, Lauder and Hayes wanted to celebrate all things beautiful. The elegantly appointed tables featured low flowers to allow for free-flowing conversation, while the chargers and plates were a lively and pretty way to start the new season. But Lauder has her favorites. “Glasses,” she said. “I collect them. I think it’s fun to change your feeling or mood with glasses.” That top tip has made Lauder one of the most copied hosts, with many Pinterest boards devoted to her aesthetic. Bringing that style to the masses was the goal of Hayes and everyone at Williams-Sonoma. “There are very few people who can take a product line from the bedroom through the living room to the tabletop and even a gift,” Hayes explained.

And what does Lauder think of her latest collection? “It makes me smile,” she said. “All generations have responded to the collection.” Any additional tips from the pros? “Don’t be afraid to make a mistake, because sometimes those turn out to be the best-looking tables,” said Hayes, with Lauder coolly chiming in that her party essential is “making it feel warm.” Mission accomplished.
